The Town That Made Room
easy60 minHistory€9.99
A town that kept deciding who gets a place: a council split in half by royal order, a saint against fire, a doctor who left for Tolstoy, and a synagogue by Peter Behrens.
Walk from the cathedral hill to the arcaded Mariánske námestie and on to the New Synagogue, and read the history of Žilina in what you can still see today: two towers on the hill, a doctor's plaque, the relief at the foot of a column no one dared to remove, a fountain of two musicians, a saint's statue in a golden niche, a friars' church at the old edge of town and a stone base designed by Peter Behrens. Easy, around 60 minutes, about 1 km, mostly flat and entirely outdoors, no tickets needed.
